I came across a very thorough and straight forward discussion: "Gender Roles in the Bible". Until the author gets to 1 Corinthians 11 and the head covering, he presents every aspect of uniqueness of women as "from creation" and as an example of Christ and the Church - and not as some cultural custom that we have "overcome" nowadays. Using the Bible words themselves. I recommend reading.
Since he believes that we need a culturally relevant solution to the problem of the tradition of headcovering for women to show forth the beauty of God's order of creation, I, of course suggest a simple idea: let's cover our heads with a head scarf. Sounds reasonable, right? :)
