Some women with muslim faith wear a headscarf. As Germany is a very secular society(okay, besides some regions in Bavaria and seemingly near the town Vechta in Lower Saxony) it´s relatively seldom. I thought in the past, that this is an public expression of a cultural and religious identity. I was totally wrong about that, as I saw the real reason for the headscarf today in a train: It´s simply a hands-free mounting for the mobileA woman in the row in front of me put her mobile between her face and the scarf. Travel really broadens the mind.

Exactly! It's very conveniently "hands-free". But the hijab has to be tight to do this. If it's loose... You'll drop your phone!
